In part 2, Jay and Josh discuss more of Twin Peak's characters as well as some of the larger themes and that weird ending.

I'm surprised you guys didn't talk about Laura disappearing after Sarah stabs her photo. It's such an important scene because it shows that the series indeed has alternate realities (whether or not you consider it meta is up to you). That may lead to a whole another interpretation.

lmao when david is bitching about the hollywood system now a days where they're like "you have 2 days to tell your story in movie form and thats it" and its true. like he said you can't sink into anything anymore and think. its like a machine, just make it and go. i feel like sara is possessed by judy. i mean that whole house is just cursed so it would make sense for judy to wanna "nest" there. plus shes drinking bloody mary's which is like blood, shes watching violence non stop which im pretty sure is something judy would enjoy. i like to think when they say "we live inside a dream" they're talking about the characters living inside a tv show, they're not real. like those flesh golems they have, idk their names. it makes a double of them but its not exactly them. its like an actor on tv. it is them but they're playing another part. i remember the last episode when cooper and laura go to the palmer house and everything is normal, it felt wrong and off. it didn't feel like twin peaks. it felt like boring real life, our boring reality. but then she screams at the end and the lights go out so idk lol

I wonder if Judy is conjured through rape - it would explain evil cool raping Audrey and Dianne, while also fitting into some of the overall themes of rape and the cycle of sexual abuse in twin peaks overall. And Dianne and coops uncomfortable sex scene is essentially them each succumbing to have having sex with someone they don’t want to sleep with

I wish they would've made the connection to the original series where "Mrs. Tremond" also seemed to look at someone else in the house despite claiming to be the only one there, seems like a sort of tick that Judy or the people being possessed by her have. Also the connection with Alice Tremond, the person in the Palmer house at the end of The Return.

Thanks for the nice reviews... recognizing much of the blabbering I had with friends about film and series. Btw: it has probably been said by others here, but I always thought, in Audrey's final scene, dressed in white and watching herself in that mirror, that she finally woke up from her coma (in hospital). Whatever it means... well... some interpreters might say: Audrey is the Dreamer! 😉

I just paused at the part where y’all are talking about Sarah Palmer and the bug - it was my interpretation when I watched fire walk with me that Sarah was aware of the abuse the whole time, which in my eyes makes her very much not innocent from the beginning of the series. I think I interpreted it that way because it just seems unlikely to me that that could go on in the house for so long without her noticing, and it’s such a sadly common thing that adults are complacent to child abuse perpetrated by other adults and either don’t see the signs, or see the signs and let it happen because they want to maintain a facade of normalcy or they genuinely don’t care, but that was my take, I would have to rewatch the movie to remember what it was about her behavior that made me think that. I don’t know about the bug, but I definitely think of the character of Sarah as being aware and complacent to her daughter’s abuse

I wish I could share your love. But to me too many plotlines were unfinished, too many randomn characters were introduced without any connection to the plot. I don’t mean Michael Cera, he was awesome. I mean all the roadhouse teenagers. .I thought Doughie just went on too long. I thought the bands that performed aside from the first one and James didn’t feel integrated in to the mood and the story, just performances of bands David Lynch liked with the audience enjoying themselves. Fine to watch separately but sorry bad storytelling for me. There were funny, beautiful and haunting moments. Apart from the Nine inch nails song episode 8 was so beautiful and surreal that it to me doesn’t matter that it defies an easy interpretation. The same with the purple ocean, but all the sci-fi stuff with the portals, the tulpa’s, it didn’t feel very surreal or an exploration of the subconscious, more like sci-fi nonsense to me. . Furthermore I like the last scene, I like the mood, but it just feels like everything leading up to that in the episode is Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway again where characters suddenly have different names and identities and come back again. I don’t believe it’s fitting with Twin Peaks. It basically messes with everything that comes before that and that really bugs me the wrong way. Plus I think the original series combination with likeable characters and dark surreal undertones was perfect. The dark FWWM also worked for me because it truly focused on a horrible subject matter, with dark surreal images that could be taken as a metaphor and part of the story at the same time. I didn’t like the first part of the movie however since it had no real connection to the story. Here the supernatural is constantly on the forefront, it is not behind seemingly normal life, it is there with vortexes and blowing heads and people being manufactured. Plus I don’t know the whole glove thing seemed like something made up in a brainstorm session with a couple of 5 year olds. I think if you trimmed unnecessary characters, unnecessary scenes, to maybe 9 or 10 episodes with the main characters it would have been better. It’s not the length of the scenes but the fact we see main characters disappear and come back 3 episodes later. It’s a mess. And to be honest I thought Norna and Ed were together at the end of season 2 The heartwarming scene of them coming back together didn’t really add a lot for me. Also Jacoby talking like Alex Jones is fun for 1 time but he has become a one note character, in the original he is far more layered. I could go on for a while. David Lynch is one of my favorite artists. If I would have to pick my favorite movie it would at this day be Blue Velvet. I think the original series is a masterpiece. But all in all I was really disappointed with this season to the point I actually wished it wasn’t made.

Great review, it encouraged me to dig out the blu ray and binge-watch all 18 eps again. 😁 One thing I thought I might add, and again these things are open to interpretation - but I felt that ‘Billy’ was the dude in the jail cell with the perpetually bleeding mouth. There’s a conversation at the Roadhouse where a couple of women talk about Billy and Tina and describe ‘Billy’ as raving mad, with blood dripping out of his face. I think even Audrey mentions this at one point. Anyway, great stuff as always ! I’d love to see more DL stuff covered on RLM.

I think the 'master' interpretation from Twin Perfect gets a bit short shrift in this re:view. First of all, I don't think the interpretation is reductive, so much as it is unifying. Secondly, while the 'violence on TV' part of the thesis is a major point, I think boiling that interpretation down to this feature is a straw man. The point of that interpretation was that making TV violence consumable in the way that 80s crime procedurals and prime time TV did was awful, particularly in making it acceptable by creating the expectation of closure that would in some sense justify the violence on TV. I think that's actually a pretty complex thesis and not exactly something that would allow a viewer equipped with that thesis to just 'switch off' while watching Twin Peaks (rather the contrary, one hopes). I agree that the youtuber in question has an overly smug manner in which he presents everything, but judging from the effort put into it, it looks like something that's been worked on for years, and could easily have been put into a graduate level thesis in media studies. I can forgive some smugness when presenting that, and I don't think you can accuse him of cherrypicking the quotes he's relying on. I'm not sure it's completely air tight, as I am not sure how much room that interpretation leaves for the emotional sincerity of the 'Dougie Jones'-Cooper plot development, but overall I think it's an interpretation worth engaging with, given what else it has to say about television as a medium and not just about Twin Peaks.

It also helps that the vast majority of both their interpretations are 1:1. Seriously, Jay’s dismissive attitude has always soured this Re:View for me (I’ve watched it 4 times as I love TP theories/reviews) to the point that I now sometimes view his criticisms of other work as vapid and personal instead of academic and structural. I love this series. One thing I thought hasn't been addressed much is that the Cooper at the very end of the show is no longer the joyful, optimistic Cooper that came out of the coma and was present all during the original run of Twin Peaks. Instead this Cooper feels like an amalgamation of Bob and Cooper; he seems grumpy, even mean sometimes, but still wants to help people and solve cases.

Audrey's scenes IMHO represents something entirely different ... and that is simply Lynch / Fenn relationship as a director / actor. It feels like not so subtle statement, that Lynch does not want Audrey to be part of the last season, but the constant nagging of actress and fans forced him to include her. "Here is your pointless nostalgia, are you happy now?" :-D

I think the opening up of the face is a reference to the term of taking off one's mask. Many philosophies talk about sentient beings, humans, whatever, we all wear masks. And with the Palmer women taking off their final mask, you can see inside them, they show the person their soul. Which is why inside, the one woman has darkness within and the other has light, indicating a purer soul. Perhaps...

Everyone has a theory but I feel like the message of s3 is "don't let your conscious mind control what you want - your emotional engagement is what matters. We want what Lynch gives us even if we can't articulate the desire before we have it. He's rejecting the idea of doing things "rationally" and trying to get us to delve into our own emotions. The ancient idea of "catharsis" doesn't come down to something we can rationally explain, it's what we feel - fear, anger, disgust, boredom, confusion, joy - that matters.

Flip the name BOB and who is it? mom. Or “MoM”, when spelled this way consists of 2 capital “Ms”, which are literal twin peaks, with an “O” locked between them, which is what BoB was floating inside of during s3. They’re all apart of the same entity, which is Judy. Judy created BOB during the atomic bomb tests, and part of that evil hid inside Sarah Palmer, which is the frog creature entering the little girl’s mouth. BOB found his way back to his mom, Judy, and fed on the people of Twin Peaks, since there was already a strong evil presence there. Also, I just found out that MIKE had a tattoo on his severed arm, which read....mom. mom is BOB. I figured this out by inserting little dots inside letters, to see how they moved. If they were rigid, it was a masculine letter, because men in the horror genre are rigid. If it was cyclical, it was a feminine letter, because women are the cyclical driving force of the horror genre. Crazy, right?! Well, then this appeared at the end of s3, ep17, when Phillip Jeffries blows a smoke “8” with the little dot inside it. I’ve done it. I completed TP & all I got was this lousy AM-posts show
